2014 Parks & Open Spaces Award - Gold

In 2014 the assessment took place in August (when the photograph below was taken) and we were delighted to win a Gold award. This is a new award scheme for this year and we were the only park or open space in Bristol to enter.

The certificate was presented at the Britain in Bloom - South West awards ceremony in Trowbridge on 18th September 2014.

This award considers both community involvement and the management of the park, so winning the gold award is very much a team effort between Friends of Troopers Hill and Bristol Parks - especially our Park Keeper, Julian Thomas. Jules left Bristol Parks at the end of September so we were particularly pleased that he could go out on a high.

The assessment criteria and the document we prepared for the RHS assessor setting out our achievements and how we met the criteria can be seen via the links below together with the feedback we received.

Earlier Awards

For seven years prior to 2014 Troopers Hill was successfully entered by Bristol Parks in the national Green Flag Award Scheme for quality green spaces.

Bristol City Council has not entered any of its sites for Green Flags since 2013, partly because of the administrative cost and partly due to concerns raised at Bristol Parks Forum meetings that entering a small number of sites meant that resources were focused on those sites to the detriment of others.
